The world's best airline is constantly looking for new cabin crew to join their esteemed roster. If you want to be a flight attendant for Qatar Airways, this guide is for you.
How to Apply
Qatar Airways will be hiring more cabin crew in 2024. Last year, they conducted four recruitment events in Manila, Cebu, and Cagayan De Oro. The hiring events are invite-only, unlike in 2022 when it was mostly open days, so make sure to apply online to get an invitation. Just like any recruitment website, you also have to make sure that your resume and profile is optimized to receive an invitation. Airlines rely on ATS (Applicant Tracking System) to make the hiring process easier, since they receive thousands (maybe even hundred thousands) of applications. They cannot accommodate everyone on the hiring day, so the ATS does the job of scanning the best profile.
The recruitment typically involves Meet and Greet and Assessment Day. If you receive an invitation through e-mail, it will state the day of 'Meet and Greet'. The meet and greet is usually from 8 AM to 4 PM, but you have your assigned time (e.g. 1 PM), so you have to arrive at least 15-30 minutes before your schedule to make time for retouching, lining up, and the local recruiter to check your invitation. If it is invite-only, it takes 1-3 days of process. The meet and greet is where you meet the recruiters for a short interview. If you pass, you will proceed to the second day which is the assessment day. I will talk about these in detail below.

Interview Stages
1. Arm Reach
When you arrive at the meet and greet. the first step is arm reach. The local recruiters will handle this part. Qatar Airways requires applicants to have at least 212 cm of arm reach. There will be a tape on the wall that you have to reach. Five applicants will line up facing the wall and you will be instructed to reach the tape. Usually you have to reach with one arm first, then the other, and sometimes both arms. Once the recruiter have checked if you reached the tape, they will note it on your resume if you will proceed or not. If you did, you will go on to the initial interview.
2. Initial Interview
In this next step, you will meet the recruiters for a short interview. There will be 4-5 recruiters and you will be interviewed by one of them. They will commonly ask about what you currently do, your work experience, and why you want to apply. This is a very short face-to-face interview where they immediately assess if you fit the job. Before you attend, practice your introduction as well as the common questions, and most importantly learn your resume. They also assess your grooming and visual impact here. Make sure everything is perfect! If you impress the recruiter, you will receive an invitation slip to the assessment day.
3. English Test
If you make it pass the initial interview, you will now proceed to the Assessment Day where the initial company orientation, English test and 1-on-1 session, and sometimes final interview will take place. This will be a very long day, so bring your snacks and water too.
After the short company presentation, you will have a 20 minute English test. It is a paper-based exam with 20 items. You will be instructed to shade your answers on the given section (first page). There are three parts of the test -
vocabulary, subject-verb agreement/grammar, and
reading comprehension. This part is to
assess your English language fluency through
written exam. The test is pretty straightforward (multiple choice questions) as you are only given 20 minutes. The recruiter does not disclose how many points you need to score, however it is better to score at least 16 out of 20 items. If you pass, you will proceed to 1-on-1 session.
4. 1-on-1 Assessment Session (Personal Information, Tattoo, Scar Declaration, Chitchat)
This part is where the recruiter will have a chance to get to know you more. You will be asked to enter a room, where there will be one recruiter to check on your information and physical assessment. The recruiter will ask questions like if you wear braces, retainer, or glasses. They will check your arm reach again.
Next, they will ask if you want to declare any marks, birthmarks, scars, or tattoo. Qatar Airways is known to be strict with these especially on your face and your arms. They will check if you have any dented, dark, or raised scars like keloid. Moles or skin marks will also be checked. If you declare it, that's the only time they will look at your arms, face or legs. Overall, your scars or moles should be as minimal or light as possible. As the saying goes, if you can conceal, you can make it. Don't worry too much on this part, rather let your personality shine instead that your scars cannot stop you from getting this job. In my case, I have a small birthmark and some insect bites on my legs, one of the recruiter said it is very light and can be concealed since female cabin crew can wear stockings or trousers.
Once everything is declared and checked, the recruiter will write these down. If you pass until final interview, they usually send an e-mail where you have to take a picture of your declared scars. Your recruiter and other hiring managers from the headquarter will deliberate on these if they are acceptable or not.
Finally, the recruiter will have a chit-chat with you. They will ask a random question here such as "If you could travel anywhere right now, where would you go?", "What do you think is your best characteristic?", or it could be related to the job like "What makes a great cabin crew?" or "What is customer service to you?". Don't sweat too much about what your answer should be. Like the recruiter told us, they just want to hear you talk. What they are assessing here is your communication skill and how well you react to a situation or a question. They will observe you and listen to the way you speak. Practice answering some questions at home in front of a mirror, so you will not feel intimidated on the assessment day.
5. Final Interview
The last stage is where there will be interviewers who will have a final physical evaluation at you. Your resume is the focus on this stage. You will be asked to tell something about yourself, your work experience, your interests, what you know about their company, and what you can offer. They will ask you situational questions related to in-flight duties. They will assess you closely, so make sure to give your best. You will also be asked if you are fine with moving away from family, living abroad, working with different schedules, serving alcohol, and your familiarity with Qatar. The interview typically runs for 10-15 minutes. Once done with the interview, they will inform you to wait for an e-mail if you passed or not. Typically, if you pass, you will receive an e-mail called Photo Requirements. You will need to send a whole body photo and head shot photo with blue background.
The hiring process is long and tedious, but it is all worth it. I only wrote until final interview as this guide is focused on the interview rather than the next steps like photo requirements and medical. It is crucial that you pass ATS to get an invite as well as reach until final interview, since these steps require you to be prepared and focused.
May this guide help you in applying. Good luck!
